Valentino, along with thousands of other men, women, and children, were plagued by disease, injury, and animal attacks on their journey through Sudan. One of their greatest battles however was with hunger. Imagine walking many miles a day in unbearable heat with little to no food or water.
Although many of the Lost Boys have found homes, the Sudanese battle with hunger is far from over. In fact, hunger and malnutrition remain the leading risks to health worldwide, killing more people than TB, malaria, and AIDS combined.
